Why do we replace our mobile phones every 2 years?

One reason is “app obsolescence”. New apps won’t work on old phones so users have to keep upgrading their phones.

A way to combat this is to use web apps instead of conventional apps. Web apps are essentially web pages which run in a phone’s browser and, crucially, are far more sustainable than conventional apps.

Location based apps can be some of the more technically difficult to convert to web apps although still quite possible. Webfurnace is an experimental platform which aids the building of such web apps.
